Summer Garden

This was an interesting project. The clients live most of the year in England, and return to this coastal home in July and August to enjoy the Maine summer. Unfortunately, their flower beds received only minimal maintenance in their absence, and, as occurs when this happens, weeds, pillars of opportunism, took advantage of the situation and overran most of the plants. My job: weed and plant the beds with flowers and shrubs that bloom when the clients are home. Some of the plants I added include: yarrow, salvia, black-eye Susan, phlox, hyssop, heliopsis, globe thistle, purple bee balm, Shasta daisy, potentilla, smooth hydrangea, and Clethra. Additionally, I used sheet mulch (cardboard) on an overgrown bed in the backyard to smother the weeds.
